world I time to grab a seat, slip out of your shoes and socks, kick back and get ready for this week’s weekly wash, proudly brought to you by AKWA Surf. Keeping you informed with all the happenings in the surf locally and what has been shaking on the pro tour
Ok now lets break it down and have a good look at this last passing week for waves, we started the week in fine form with a solid 4/5ft east swell lining up the coast, giving a fine array of quality waves, then an ugly cold southerly came thru and destroyed what was left of the abating sea until finally the demise of the surf towards the end of the week, such a dismal display which could only be liken to a fart in a bath tub
But as I stated in the last paragraph there was some fun surf earlier this week, most probably the best was at Bach Beach Bendalong and being school holidays did make the line up a very social experience, being the social butterfly he is and never letting a chance to surf nice Bach beach go past was Jeff "Jacko" Rogers, Jacko paddled from one end of the beach to the other hunting down the bombs, like the way a Blue hair rinse hunts down a grandmother Jacko consistently picked the better waves of the day
Saturday dawn came to life with a picturesque morning, although a little disappointing with the massive decline to the swell did allow a fun little right hand bank appear at the ever consistent Mollymook reef, getting in the water early was Ingrid Rouse on her most treasured knee board, seeing as thou the waves were only knee high I guess she choose the perfect equipment, although she may have just been feeling guilty for missing Friday night mass and decided to get down on her knees and pray to Huey for more surf
South Africa had another world wide sporting contest running over the past week and Jordy Smith Claims Mr Price Pro, Takes No. 1 Spot on ASP World Ranking, Jordy Smith 22, etched his name into the history books today, becoming the third ever South African winner of the ASP 5-Star Mr Price Pro Ballito, simultaneously moving into the No. 1 position on the ASP World Rankings.
Smith defeated South Coast star Casey Grant in the Final to claim an emotional victory before his home crowd. Riding high on the shoulders of his friends, some of Durban's finest surfers, as the crowds exploded into cheers of support, Smith was awarded his $US 21 000 winner's cheque.
"I haven't won an event in front of my home crowd since I was fifteen," Smith said (Smith won the ISA World Junior Games in Durban). "This is just wild! I am so happy right now I don't even know what to say!" I would say just enjoy the ride Jordy
