G’day World, time to park the caboose, open up your senses and breath in this week's Weekly Wash, proudly brought to you by AKWA Surf. Keeping you informed with all the happenings in the surf locally and what has been moving and shaking on the pro tour.
When a another week goes by with deplorable surf conditions it is easy to think “how bad is this!”, the waves have been dribble, the water is a tad chilly and you start to think damn I have it bad. Sometimes it takes an absolute tragedy, such as what happened this week in the best surf location on earth, the Mentawais, where there is loss of life and loads of local villages destroyed. We are quickly reminded to stop whinging and remember how lucky we really are! So let’s take a moment and give our thoughts out to the people of the Mentawais.
I have to admit though, this week was about as pleasant as a paper cut, annoying and small. For all the desperados out there who just have to surf no matter what the circumstances are, like hardcore surf devotee Dick Davenport who would paddle out in a dam if the wind went off shore, Dicky found enough push in the ocean this week to continue his surf stoke, but as 1977 world champion Shaun Tomson once said it only takes 1 good manoeuvre to make any bad surf all worthwhile.
Sunday the waves came, with a push from the north east which pulsed throughout the day peaking in the afternoon keeping the smiles on our surfers faces beaming, one who had a smile beaming so bright you could get sunburnt from was Stuart MacDonnell, Big Stu charged down the slippery moss ridden track at the Pocket and promptly paddled out to the peak and stole the set of the afternoon right under everyone’s noses, much to his delight.
This coming Sunday sees the last event of the year for Ulladulla Boardriders, with all divisions extremely close this could be the deciding event to see who will walk away with the glory, as usual we will be meeting at Rennie’s beach at 7:30am I hope to see you all there for our last hurrah and just a quick reminder Ulladulla Boardriders presentation night will be held at the Mollymook surf club on Saturday the 11th of December
MIDDLES, Puerto Rico – The Rip Curl Pro Search Puerto Rico enjoyed a massive opening day of competition, completing Round 1 of the men’s event as well as Rounds 1 and 2 of the women’s in punchy three-to-four foot right hander’s at the primary site of Middles. Event No. 9 of 10 on the 2010 ASP World Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Search Puerto Rico has hyper-focused the attention of the international sporting world, with a history-in-the-making ASP World Title Race. Kelly Slater who is 38, former nine-time ASP World Champion and current ASP World No. 1, could potentially clinch an unprecedented 10th ASP World Title in Puerto Rico, and moved one step closer to that goal today with an emphatic Round 1 victory. 10 in 10 is the call, as the comp heats up you can check all the action out at www.akwasurf.com.au here hoping we see some history
