Weekly Wash

G’day world take a deep breath, exhale and repeat once more in preperation for this week’s weekly wash, proudly brought to you by AKWA Surf. keeping you informed with all the happenings in the surf locally and what has been shaking on the pro tour

OMG what a week for surf, pumping clean 4 to 6ft fanned by a light off shore breeze nearly every day this week made it a very enjoyable time to don the wetsuit and take a few steps towards your local break and then proceed to a gourmet selection of waves

Friday was a special day with a clean straight south swell with a really nice light westerly wind making Potholes more popular than a Justin Bieber concert in Long Bay Jail, with the waves bottoming out to offer some ridiculous tubes and fun walls set a standard of surfing well above par, James Tucker was seen or should I say hardly seen as he spent more time behind the curtain than in front of it getting shacked until eventually snapping his weapon

Speaking of snapped boards the carnage of the this past week read like an obituary page with Matt Johnson, Brett Burcher, Garth Dickinson and of course James Tucker all killing their beloved boards and this was backed up with a heap of dings and Leg rope breaks due to the thumping waves

Saturday morning was the biggest day and being the 1st day of the long weekend made golf course reef a popular venue, so popular in fact that I swear that your ex room mate who now lives in Byron Bay was out there chatting to that dude you met in Bali 5 years ago, yep it seemed everyone who has ever had a surf decided to paddle out golfie on Saturday, the waves were pumping thou and taking full advantage of that fleeting moment was Lucas Goodchild, Lucas managed to navigate his way through the stampede of surfers to consistently pick the best on the day

This Friday morning a very special guest will be at AKWA Surf to go over all his new models of surfboards, who is the special guest you ask well its none other than Darren Handley the brilliant surfboard shaper behind the 2 current world champions Mick Fanning and Steph Gilmore, if you would like to meet him he will be at AKWA Surf at 10:30am Friday
 
Christian Surfers will be host their annual event at Narrawallee this coming Saturday, with a $5 entry fee which includes lunch how could you go wrong?? Registration is at 7am  so be there or be square   
A fully fit and recovered Julian Wilson is ready to launch himself onto the Association of Surfing Professionals Tour at next week's ASP 6-Star Sri Lankan Airlines Pro which will run at the famous Arugam Bay point break on Sri Lanka's superb south east coast. Wilson is one of the world's most exciting, progressive, new-age surfers capable of outstanding performances in all conditions. A serious ankle injury and subsequent operation severely disrupted his 2010 year-to-date, but he has recovered and the 22-year-old, Queensland surfer is looking forward to tackling the ASP tour with the ultimate aim of qualifying onto the elite ASP Dream Tour.

"Before this season began I set a high goal to qualify, but the injury certainly set me back a fair way and has taken close to four months to heal," said Wilson. "Over the past month, it has rapidly improved and I've edged my way back into competition with events in the USA and Brazil last month and right now coming into Sri Lanka I feel like I'm finally prepared and ready to go." As an ideal lead up Wilson just spent a week in Western Australia surfing with Taj Burrow and Mick Fanning the lucky bugger.
